Marana High School Mourns Student Cory Roper After Tragic Death on Campus

MARANA, Ariz. — The Marana High School community is grieving the tragic death of student Cory Roper, who was found deceased on school grounds early Tuesday morning.

The Marana Police Department said officers responded to Marana High School at 12000 W. Emigh Road at approximately 6:47 a.m. after school staff discovered a deceased person on campus.

According to police, preliminary information indicates that an individual entered the campus during the early morning hours, around 1:30 a.m., and was later discovered by staff.

Police said one person was found deceased and that the incident appears to have involved a single individual.

Police Say There Is No Threat to the Public

Authorities said the incident is believed to be isolated and that there is no danger to the community.

The campus was deemed safe, but Marana High School remained closed Tuesday as investigators continued working at the scene.

Police said Cory’s next of kin had been notified. Officials have emphasized that the investigation remains in its preliminary stages and have not released additional details surrounding his death.

School District Focuses on Students and Family

The Marana Unified School District described Cory’s death as a profound tragedy and said its immediate priority is supporting students, staff and his family.

The district is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the reported entry onto campus, including the school’s security system, while continuing to cooperate with law enforcement.

“This is a profound tragedy, and our focus is entirely on supporting our students, staff, and the family,” the district said.

The district said the security system is being actively reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
