Dr Laurie Gillespie Dies in Greenville, South Carolina, Remembered for Her Dedication to Children and Families
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Dr Laurie Gillespie, a Greenville, South Carolina, resident and licensed psychologist associated with Restorative Psychological LLC in Simpsonville, has died. Her death, reported Thursday last week, is being described as an apparent suicide.
Dr Gillespie leaves behind a professional legacy built around more than two decades of caring for children and families. Throughout her career, she devoted herself to paediatric medicine before turning her attention toward behavioural and mental health, an area that became a particular passion.
A Career Dedicated to Paediatric and Behavioural Health
A native of Macon, Georgia, Dr Gillespie earned her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine before completing her paediatric residency through the Medical Center of Central Georgia, now known as Atrium Health Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital.
She spent more than 20 years practising general paediatrics before focusing increasingly on behavioural health. Her work included helping children and families navigate conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and mild depression. 
Her approach centred on understanding the individual needs of each patient and working with families to develop treatment plans that were practical, compassionate and tailored to their circumstances.
A Passion for ADHD and Neuropsychological Care
Dr Gillespie became particularly recognised for her interest in ADHD and behavioural health. Her professional experience, continuing education and team-based approach helped shape the care she provided to children experiencing learning and behavioural challenges.
Her personal experience also influenced her work. Raising a son with learning disabilities gave her an additional perspective on the challenges families can face while seeking appropriate support and treatment.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Gillespie specialised in neuropsychological, psychological, developmental and psycho-educational testing. Her work sought to help families better understand children’s developmental and learning needs and identify appropriate paths forward.
