CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting Wednesday evening near City Mattress at Del Prado Boulevard North and Northeast 10th Street in Cape Coral.

The Cape Coral Police Department confirmed that an active investigation was underway in the area, with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisting officers at the scene.

According to preliminary information, a suspect was seriously injured during the officer-involved shooting and was transported to a local hospital under a trauma alert. The suspect later died at the hospital.
