One Dead After Stabbing in Deep River, Ontario; Residents Ordered to Shelter in Place

DEEP RIVER, Ontario — Deep River Police are urging residents to shelter in place Wednesday following a reported stabbing on McElligott Drive that left one person dead.

Authorities issued an emergency warning instructing residents to remain indoors and follow safety directions while police respond to the incident and investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Residents Ordered to Shelter in Place

Police are asking anyone outside to immediately seek shelter in a secure location.

Those already indoors are being instructed to lock all doors and windows and close curtains or blinds. Residents have also been warned not to approach or engage with anyone they do not know.

Drivers in the area are being told to proceed directly to their destination and seek shelter indoors. Police are also advising motorists not to pick up hitchhikers while the emergency remains active.

Residents are being asked to remain indoors until authorities issue an official all-clear.

One Person Dead

Police confirmed that one person died following the incident on McElligott Drive.

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased or provided information about a possible suspect.
